arbnco announced as Sponsor for Heriot-Watt Solar Decathlon Team
We’re proud to announce that we are sponsoring Heriot-Watt University’s Team ESTEEM in the finals of the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2020 (SDME2020). The finals, taking place in Dubai in November 2021, will see teams from 28 universities worldwide come together to design and construct sustainable, energy efficient, solar-powered houses at Dubai World Expo 2021.
Billed as the ‘ultimate sustainable built environment competition’, SDME2020’s participants must blend research, innovation, and technology across ten challenges, concluding with the construction of their building. The building must be both energy self-sufficient, and sensitive to the unique climatic, cultural, and social demands of the Middle East region. The pillars of the competition are Sustainability, Future, Innovation, Clean Energy, Mobility, Smart Solutions, and Happiness – all of which must be taken into account in the final construction.
Based in Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt is the only UK university selected for the finals, and, alongside arbnco and its other partners, will be representing Scotland and the wider UK at the competition.
The Solar Decathlon Middle East is an international competition created by the United States Department of Energy. SDME2020 will be regionally administered by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and is intended to cultivate ideas and technologies that can assist in increasing energy efficiency in the region’s built environments.
We will be partnering with Heriot-Watt to provide their team’s sustainable building with our arbn well indoor monitoring technology. arbn well provides quantitative and qualitative real-time analysis of the indoor environment, helping to improve occupant health and wellbeing, and optimizing building functions such as heating and cooling to reduce carbon emissions.
We’ll also be assisting with house design and the implementation of our products. With 25 million visitors from over 200 countries expected at Dubai World Expo 2021, the event is a truly global one, allowing us to showcase our innovative technologies to an international audience in a practical setting.
The sponsorship will, among other opportunities, give us the chance to engage with Heriot-Watt’s Global Research Innovation and Discovery Centre (GRID), exchanging research and ideas, and hopefully embark on future collaborative efforts with the University.
We’ve always valued the knowledge and opportunities that come through collaboration with higher educational institutions, having undertaken two Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with the University of Strathclyde, and this new partnership sees us broadening our scope and cultivating new relationships with Scotland’s world-leading academics and universities.
We’d like to wish the whole Heriot-Watt team luck while they prepare for the competition, and we look forward to working with them this year to create something truly groundbreaking.
